WinUAE is saying it needs a newer IPF plugin?

I downloaded the newer version of the CAPS user library/plugin, but the new WinUAE just keeps telling me I need a newer version. What can I do?

If you are having problems getting WinUAE to load IPF files, in particular if it says that you need a newer version, then it may be that an older DLL is being cached by the operating system or being used from somewhere else on your system.

  • Do a search for all “capsimg.dll” files and delete them all. It could be anywhere in the system paths for the OS to find it.
  • Reboot - do not just re-login.
  • Once you are logged in, all the caches should have cleared. Now copy the new DLL file into the WinUAE directory.

If you still have a problem, it may mean you did not download the current DLL (or the download got silently aborted) and you should download it again from our site. If you downloaded the file in your browser, perhaps it has been cached since it is so small. Try clearing the cache and download again. The same thing can happen if downloading via a caching proxy server or utility.

If it still does not work after all that, contact us and we can mail you the plugin so there is no way it can get cached by HTTP access.
